rosh Hashanah cards & Jewish new year greeting card

The Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah (which translates as "Head of the Year") is observed for two days from on Tishrei 1, the first day of the Jewish year. Rosh Hashana is the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman.

The main tradition on Rosh Hashanah is to sound the shofar, the ram's horn, which also represents the trumpet blast of a people's coronation of their king.

The sounding of the shofar is a call for repentance since Rosh Hashanah is also the anniversary of man's first sin and his repentance thereof, and is the first of the "Ten Days of Repentance" which finishes with the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).

The shofar's other significance is to recall the Binding of Isaac. A ram took Isaac's place as an offering to God and this also occurred on Rosh Hashanah. We remember Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his own son and ask that the merit of this deed will stand by us as we pray for a year of health & prosperity. The shofar is sounded 100 times during the Rosh Hashanah service.
